The Triglav National Park

The Triglav National Park, named after the country’s highest peak, Triglav, is Slovenia’s only national park. Its primary objective is protection of nature and cultural heritage (Triglav national park, 2020).

Triglav

Magnificent views from the tall peaks, green Alpine valleys, babbling brooks and lakes that reflect the blue sky, and a huge diversity of flora and fauna. No, you’re not dreaming! You can experience all of this in Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s largest protected area and only national park. It takes its name from Slovenia’s highest mountain, Triglav (2,864 m), and is seen by many as a kind of holy mountain. The park encompasses the majority of the eastern part of the Julian Alps. In addition to its natural attractions you can feel man’s connection with nature, which is also evident in the park’s cultural heritage. There are abundant opportunities for exploring and active use of your free time, so what are you waiting for? Feel Triglav National Park in your own way (Slovenia.info, 2020)

Julian Alps

Slovenia’s only national park proudly covers 840 square kilometres in the heart of the Julian Alps (Triglav national park, 2020)

Pokljuka

Pokljuka is a forested high karst plateau on the eastern edge of the Triglav National Park. Pokljuka is a high karst plateau on the eastern edge of Triglav National Park. It lies at an elevation of around 1.200 and 1.500 m. The plateau is known for its forests and mountain pastures (Javornik, Lipanca, Uskovnica, Zajamniki, etc.). Many birch and fir trees were chopped down in the 18th century for the iron foundries in Bohinj. Administratively, it belongs to the municipalities of Bled, Bohinj, and Gorje. Elevation, clean and fresh air and energetic points have beneficial effects on health and well-being. A rugged surface of hidden shafts, overgrown potholes and valleys is a remnant of the activity of the Pokljuka glacier. Glacier left behind the Pokljuka bogs and marshy, difficult to pass forest areas. The bogs belong to the most southern high bogs in Europe (Pokljuka, 2020).
